PSV, officially Philips Sport Vereniging, is a sport club in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, most known for its football division. It is regarded as one of the top football clubs in the country.

In 2019 PSV approached Bold Monday to design a custom branding typeface based on their traditional logo design featuring the bold italic caps “PSV” with unique slab-serifs. The project grew from an initial all-caps font to improve and unify the different PSV brands and divisions – and the lettering on the logo – into a larger set of custom typefaces, all designed by PSV fan Pieter van Rosmalen.

Next to the relatively wide and round PSV Branding Italic van Rosmalen designed a more condensed and constructed all-caps variant for jerseys. This style was later expanded into a more complete type family, PSV Sans, for short texts, display applications and ephemera. Realising that they would also need a version for longer texts, van Rosmalen added PSV Text to the now quite comprehensive set that all complement the branding font.

Fun facts: In addition to a basic set of arrows, the fonts include the Eindhoven logo, a “vibe” symbol, a slab element, and a star. The condensed jersey typeface was designed without overshoots to ensure fan jersey names can be spaced manually using a ruler. Creating stars together.
