Earlier this year we were invited to improve the existing typeface for Dekmantel, an Amsterdam-based DJ collective, events company and record label. Since 2007 Dekmantel has steadily established a solid reputation in the international dance scene for its yearly Dekmantel festival in Amsterdam, along with a growing library of releases by artists such as Robert Hood, Palms Trax, Basic Soul Unit, and Fatima Yamaha.

Starting from an existing design made several years ago by one of Dekmantel’s in-house designers, we overhauled, remixed and extended the typeface (on a steady diet of Detroit techno naturally). The new typeface has a greatly improved appearance while still capturing the original character. The enlarged character set also ensures the new typeface can be used in many more applications now.

The general identity of Dekmantel was simultaneously revamped by the designers of Thonik, Amsterdam.
